Be taken on a journey through the rich maqams and rhythms of contemporary and classical Middle Eastern music with the Rihab Azar Trio, combining oud - a Syrian lute - double bass and percussion. The first female oudist to perform with the Syrian National Orchestra for Arabic Music, Azar trained at the Conservatoire of Damascus and University College London. She has been recognised as a musician of ‘Exceptional Promise’ by Arts Council England and has continued her professional career in the UK under the Migrant Talent scheme. Azar has performed widely, with recent performances for the BBC and at the Barbican, Southbank Centre, St Paul’s Cathedral and the British Museum. Azar is also a campaigner, active in the fields of education, migration, empowerment for women and social justice.
